New Delhi: Indian Railways has taken a major step toward modernising its ticketing operations with the launch of the RailOne Mobile App and a comprehensive upgrade of its Passenger Reservation System (PRS).
Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the revamped Passenger Reservation System will replace legacy technology deployed in 2010 with the latest cloud-compliant infrastructure.
The new system is designed to process over 100,000 tickets per minute, a fourfold increase from the current 25,000, ensuring faster, more reliable, and scalable booking capabilities.

RailOne Mobile App Brings PRS to Passenger’s Palm
The newly launched RailOne Mobile App allows passengers to book both reserved and unreserved train tickets directly from their smartphones. This mobile-first approach aims to make ticketing more accessible, convenient, and in line with evolving passenger expectations.
Advance Reservation Period Reduced to 60 Days
Effective November 1, 2024, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) for trains that previously allowed bookings up to 120 days before travel has been cut to 60 days. The move is aimed at reducing cancellations caused by unforeseen events and aligning with prevailing booking patterns.

Complete Passenger Reservation System Overhaul
The Passenger Reservation System modernisation covers hardware, software, network equipment, and security infrastructure upgrades, along with new functionalities to meet the needs of today’s travellers. This transformation supports Indian Railways’ broader goal of delivering a smarter, faster, and more passenger-centric ticketing experience.
Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that the upgrades reflect Indian Railways’ commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology to serve millions of daily passengers more efficiently.
With the RailOne Mobile App and Passenger Reservation System modernisation, Indian Railways is set to usher in a new era of tech-driven convenience and operational excellence in passenger ticketing.
